Asian session
The Asian session is the initial trading period of the global forex market, primarily driven by financial centers in Asia.
The Asian session, also known as the Tokyo session, is the first major trading block to open each week, typically from 00:00 to 09:00 GMT. It is characterized by the opening of financial markets in Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Sydney. Trading activity often focuses on Asian currencies like the JPY, AUD, and NZD, as well as their crosses. Liquidity is generally lower compared to the London and New York sessions.
For retail traders, the Asian session often presents lower volatility and tighter trading ranges for major currency pairs. Spreads can be wider during this period, especially for less commonly traded pairs, increasing transaction costs. Traders might use this session for ranging strategies or to identify potential support and resistance levels before the European markets open, but should be aware of reduced liquidity.
