Resistance level
A resistance level is a price point where an asset's upward movement has historically stalled or reversed due to increased selling.
A resistance level represents a specific price on a chart where an asset's appreciation has been halted or reversed in the past. This occurs because the supply of sellers at or above this price becomes greater than the demand from buyers, creating a ceiling for the price. Traders identify these levels by observing previous price highs or areas where the price has repeatedly failed to advance further.
For a retail trader, recognizing resistance levels is vital for strategic decision-making. Traders may use these levels to place take-profit orders for long positions or to consider opening short positions, anticipating a price rejection. Conversely, a sustained breach above a resistance level can signal an uptrend continuation. Ignoring these levels can result in missed opportunities or entering trades at disadvantageous price points, increasing potential loss.
