News trading

News trading involves executing trades based on economic data releases or significant geopolitical events to profit from market volatility.

News trading is a strategy where traders open or close positions in anticipation of, or immediately following, major economic news announcements. These events, such as central bank interest rate decisions or inflation reports, often cause abrupt and significant price movements. Traders aim to capitalize on the resulting volatility by predicting market reaction or reacting quickly to confirmed data.

For retail traders, news trading carries high risk due to extreme volatility, wide spreads, and significant slippage. A trade intended to open at one price might fill at a much worse price, leading to larger losses than anticipated. Brokers often widen spreads from 1-2 pips to 10-20 pips around major news, increasing transaction costs substantially. It requires fast execution and robust risk management.
