Orders
Stop loss
A resting order that closes a losing trade at a set level.
A stop loss is placed at a predetermined price and closes a position once the market moves against you by a set amount, capping the loss on that trade. It should sit just beyond the level that would prove the trade idea wrong.
It is the mechanical heart of risk management: together with position size, the stop distance defines exactly how much money is at risk before you ever enter. Moving a stop further away is one of the most common ways accounts are destroyed.
